This page is about my military experiences.

I entered military service in October 1993.  I spent 16 weeks?? at basic training in Fort Benning, GA.

jexit.jpg (10725 bytes)  After graduating from basic I proceeded to the Airborne School also located in Fort Benning.  Airborne school is 3 weeks long and is composed of three different phases.  The first week is ground week.  During this portion everyone is taught how to do the PLF (Parachute Landing Fall).  Literally thousands of these are done in this first week in order to pound it into your brain so that it is second nature.  The second week is tower week.  This week is spent practicing exits from the aircraft utilizing the 34 foot towers.  There are also 200 foot towers but they were being worked on when are class went through.  The third and final week is jump week.  This is where we make are first five parachute jumps in order to become US Army Paratroopers.

When I graduated from Airborne School I went right down the road to the 75th Ranger Regiments RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Program).  At RIP we were smoked alot (made do do alot of pushups and other exercises) and yelled at alot.  We were also taught the basic Rangering skills needed to survive in Battalion.  RIP is designed to screen out the less than desirable soldiers before they make it to one of the battalions.

rltw.gif (22454 bytes)  After RIP I was assigned to 3rd Platoon, C Co (Charlie Rock) 3rd Ranger Battalion, again in Fort Benning.  My report date there at Battalion was April 1994.  I spent 2 years with Charlie Company doing everything from M203 gunner, SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon), to being a Team Leader.  In June 1996 the Sergeant Major decided he would like to move me to the Battalion TDY office where I would be the TDY NCOIC (NonCommissioned Officer In Charge).  I spent about 1 year doing that and not enjoying it to much. At this point I decided I would reenlist and try to do something that could help me out in the future.  There are not that many jobs out there for killing people and blowing things up.

So that is when I decided to reenlist.  I decided I would try being a 98G Voice Interceptor.  I went to the Presidio of Monterey California to the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) and studied Mandarin Chinese for 63 weeks.  At DLI I decided to put in my packet to flight school.  I found out in December 1998 and got orders to leave DLI and go to Fort Rucker, Alabama.  The day after graduating from DLI, the family picked up and moved to UCLA (Upper Corner of Lower Alabama).

I am now flying, which is something I have always dreamed of.   It is the greatest thrill of my life.  So if you have any questions about flight school please feel free to email me.
